J.D. Scott—the older brother of Drew and Jonathan Scott—recently shared that he’s been batting an unknown illness for the past 14 months. The Property Brothers: Forever Home star experienced symptoms of extreme sensitivity to high temperatures, unable to walk long distances, and a “crawly feeling” in his head. But about a month ago, the 43-year-old started feeling like himself again and wanted to update fans with the truth.
“Human beings are delicate creatures and I found out just how delicate this last year as I struggled against something very serious,” he captioned a 26-minute IGTV video. “It has been a race for answers and a frustrating journey when it seems like everything is against you, even time."
In the emotional clip, J.D. and his fiancée Annalee Belle shared the details of having multiple MRIs done and going to follow-up visits with specialists, usually not available until weeks later. Finally, the couple found Dr. Scott Jacobson, a functional physician, who uses both Western and holistic medicine.
Dr. Jacobson agreed with a neurologist’s belief that the symptoms were a result of several things culminating together and after running tests, it was found that J.D. had an infection reacting as an autoimmune disease.
Once J.D. and Annalee heard this, they could finally start understanding what they were up against. After taking antibiotics for about a month, along with cutting out wheat, dairy, soy, gluten, and sugar from his diet, J.D. says he started feeling better in a matter of days.
Now, this isn’t to say that he is completely in the clear, but it has helped his emotional state begin to heal. “I was pretty sure I was dying,” he shared with Instagram followers. And although the couple lost friends throughout this medical crisis, they are thankful for the support from the people who’ve made the effort of checking in on him.
