If you thought upgrading to that 55-gallon fish tank was an investment, you haven't heard of Infinity Aquarium Design. The Los Angeles-based company takes the concept of a custom tank to the next level, combining art, science and the latest tech to create a home for your fish that's truly one of a kind.

Founders Nic Tiemens and Joe Pineda believe that an aquarium is “like a living, moving work of art” that reflects its surroundings and a homeowner’s personality. But before getting into the aquascapes, the duo prioritizes the science of “aquariology,” aka the study of controlled aquatic systems.

For their latest project, Infinity Aquarium Design is building a custom aquarium for real-estate designer and developer Ramtin Ray Nosrati for his Brentwood mega-mansion. The house is slated to have a 1,000-gallon aquarium installed (alongside a cannabis room with its own live-in “Bud-tender").

With a price tag of $100,000, this is far from your typical tank. "The aquarium is packed with plenty of science and technology," Nic Tiemens tells House Beautiful. "The state-of-the-art life support system is remotely located approximately 40 feet from the aquarium. As the home is being built, we run our plumbing lines underneath the house to a dedicated filtration room along the exterior of the home. This ensures that the aquarium will be completely silent inside."

After its installation, homeowners have access to a remote monitoring system available on their phone and receive real-time water parameter readings, such as pH and temperature. If there's ever a system failure, leak, or fluctuation in water quality, an alert will be sent via text message and automatically turn off any component that may be affected.

As for what will go inside of the custom aquarium, freshwater African Peacock Cichlids from Lake Malawi will make it their home. "The rock work in the aquarium is all custom and hand-made to replicated the natural ecosystem of Lake Malawi," Nic shared.

But it doesn't stop there—Infinity Aquarium Design also makes sure to help with professional maintenance, so you can continue to enjoy your custom fish tank for many years to come.
